Computer Gibberish Game

February 1, 2015

I’m in my sixth year of helping people one by one. Sure, I fix a lot of problems but mostly I just answer questions about their various computing devices. I just reached what feels like a major milestone by creating my 1000th invoice. That’s a lot of problems solved and questions answered. So what would you guess is the most common question?

“Why do they call it that?”

Learning about computers is just like learning a new language. Written instructions for operating computer devices are typically in English using words we already know. The problem is, somebody commandeered words we know and changed the meanings. That somebody appears to have gotten away with it.

I’ve spent many hours explaining how something came to be called this or that. Wouldn’t it be great if I could distill all that experience and dispense it by the bottle? I’ve decided to create an online learning tool. Let’s call it The Computer Gibberish Game.

I believe knowing these new meanings will increase your computer enjoyment quotient. Isn’t it time we had some fun learning this gibberish instead of being held captive by incomprehension?

Dean’s Computer Clinic is Expanding

October 22, 2014

Next month Dean’s Computer Clinic will move to Tucson, Arizona.

My wife accepted a position at University of Arizona so we’ll spend most of our time down there from now on. I look forward to posting some pictures of my new location in Oro Valley, AZ.  I’ll be wrapping things up in Nanaimo until November 23rd if you need me. Have to get down there in time for US Thanksgiving, eh?

Four ways to get help:

  1. Call me at 800 448-0853 and we’ll talk it through. If you can’t reach me;
  2. send me an email – DeanForsyth@gmail.com and I’ll reply with advice
  3. If we can’t solve  that way I’ll set up an appointment for a remote support session at your first convenience.
  4. If it requires a home visit I’ll refer you to another computer guy I trust

Come to think of it…there’s a fifth way to get help. Come on down and see me! Spend some of Winter goofing off and maybe learn a few computer skills while you’re at it. You can’t golf all the time can you?
